Experience
Yixian Chen is an intellectual property and franchising lawyer who advises clients on protecting, commercializing, and expanding their brands in Canada and internationally. Her integrated IP and franchising practice provides a cohesive approach to brand expansion locally and across jurisdictions. She advises on Canadian franchise matters and brand strategy, as well as cross-border IP protection, anti-counterfeiting enforcement, licensing, and master franchise arrangements. Yixian works with clients to develop practical strategies for entering and operating in complex markets, with a focus on managing risk and safeguarding brand value across jurisdictions, particularly in China and Southeast Asia.
Having lived and worked across North America, China, and Europe, Yixian brings a nuanced understanding of the legal, commercial, and cultural dynamics that shape international business. She is known for translating these considerations into clear, pragmatic advice tailored to her clients’ objectives.
Clients value Yixian for her thoughtful, responsive, and commercially grounded approach, as well as her ability to anticipate issues in cross-border matters.
Outside of her legal practice, Yixian values reflection, personal growth, and the role of cultural perspective in shaping how we work and live. She enjoys music, time in nature, and staying active through tennis, water sports, and snowboarding.
