Experience
Jennifer Ko is an intellectual property (IP) lawyer, trademark agent, and patent agent with an engineering background. With extensive experience in both in-house and private practice, she offers practical, strategic counsel to clients across industries such as biomedical, IT, oil and gas, solar, nuclear, and consumer products. Jennifer advises on a full spectrum of IP matters, including portfolio management, licensing agreements, and freedom-to-operate assessments.
Jennifer’s litigation experience includes representing clients in patent, industrial design, trademark, and copyright disputes before the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal. She helps businesses protect, commercialize, and enforce their intellectual property while defending against infringement claims. Jennifer also collaborates with clients to develop IP strategies that align with their business goals, including crafting policies, templates, and operational frameworks for success.
A Fellow of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC), Jennifer has held leadership roles on its Licensing and Young Practitioners Committees. Before her legal career, she earned graduate degrees in biomedical and electrical engineering and worked in telecommunications, specializing in fiber optic communications and telemedicine.
